The University of Minnesota-Duluth grad is raising money for Duluth’s Neighborhood Youth Services.

As of Thursday, July 18, UMD grad Jared Munch was in Mattice, Ontario, on his paddleboard journey from Duluth to the Arctic Ocean.

Munch, who left Duluth June 17, paddled along the North Shore of Lake Superior for 450 miles and then headed north on the south-flowing Michipicoten River in Ontario. He then portaged over into the north-flowing Missanabie River, which is taking him downstream to James Bay on the ocean. His dad is now canoeing alongside Jared.

North from Mattcie, located on Canada Highway 11, Munch enters a roadless area for the final 200 miles to the ocean. He could reach his destination sometime next week.

You can follow his progress via satellite uplink at share.garmin.com/JaredMunch. Munch also is raising money for Duluth’s Neighborhood Youth Services. Go to gofundme.com and search for SUPerior to Sea – for the Kids!
